Birding Provo River Parkway Trail - Provo Canyon UT Birding
Provo River Parkway Birdwatching

Bird Watching on the Provo River Parkway
Bird Watching along the Provo River Parkway Trail
This is a pleasant, level 2.5-mile walk along a mature cottonwood riparian corridor. The Provo River lies in its historic floodplain near its outlet at Utah Lake, although the river was long ago diked and thoroughly contained. The path that follows this section of the river is paved and accessible to every level of user. There are four access points with parking lots within this stretch, so the length of your walk is up to you. This stretch of the river is fairly homogeneous for birding, so pick one of the parking areas and walk as much of the trail as holds your interest, birding the river, tree canopy, and adjacent fields. American Bald Eagle in Provo Canyon

American Bald Eagle - Provo River Parkway
Bald Eagle Spottings:
"The greatest thing about our last fishing excursion was that we got to see a real, wild American bald eagle. It was just a beautiful animal! I started taking pictures from far away, as I walked closer and closer to the eagle. It let us get as close as we could to it, keeping close tabs on us as we got closer. It would give me this piercing look, straight at my eyes it seemed at times. We spent a good half hour or more just looking at that eagle, marveling at its magnificence." Blogger
“I caught sight of a dark object moving quickly to my left,” she says. When she glanced over, she saw a bald eagle swooping over the Provo River. About 20 yards from her, the eagle reached into the water and pulled out a 14-inch trout, then flew downstream with the fish gripped in his talons. Story from Rails to Trails Magazine
