Winter Wren - Provo Canyon Utah
Canyon Glen Park Birding
"We viewed several Winter Wrens along the bicycle path through Canyon Glen Park. We counted at least two but there were probably several more. We wondered whether these were winter arrivals, or possibly birds that are summer residents that either remain unnoticed during summer or perhaps migrate further up the mountain when it’s warm." Trip Report
"The sweet sound of warbled chirps and melodious slurred notes bounced off the foothills east of Snowbasin. The singer seemed to express joie de vivre, happy that spring had arrived, intent on advertising its presence to potential mates and deterring territory competitors. The Townsend’s solitaire seems to suffer from seasonal confusion. While other birds have silenced their singing voices until spring and roam either to migrate or to seek food and shelter, the solitaire stakes out his or her patch and defends it with song and with fighting, if necessary." Golden Crown Kinglet - Provo Canyon UT
Bird Watching at Canyon Glen Park UT
"We walked the Provo River at Canyon Glen Park and then headed up to South Fork Park. It wasn't a lively day for birds, but we did see several American Dippers - including one standing on a rock singing at the top of his lungs. It's kind of strange to see a song bird sign a tune then suddenly plunge into river and swim around underwater. We also came across a tree full of Kinglets - both Ruby Crowned Kinglets and Golden Crowned Kinglets. I also spotted a Belted Kingfisher and a Brown Creeper. The Golden Crowned Kinglet and the Creeper were new birds for us." Blogger
